Invented and patented in 1898 by Mr. Maurice Berger, a Parisian pharmacist, it was first used in hospitals to clean the stale air of bacterias. However it was quick to reach all the spheres of society and become not only a desinfection agent but also a decorative object.
Its principle sounds rather easy but it is still unequalled to this day!
The core of the lamp is its special catalytic burner which enables a combustion without a flame. Differents layers of kaolin and platinum allow different levels of temperature ranging from 250 degrees at the center of the burner - where the fragrance evaporates - to 550 degrees on the outer ring where the catalytic combustion occurs. The refill contains Isopropyl Alcohol (IPA) and plant essential oil. The IPA produces Oxygen, Nitrogen and Aldehydes which are all powerful bactericide agents while the essential oil gently perfumes the atmosphere and releases its own aromatherapic virtue in the air we breathe.
It should be noted that the release of oxygen during the combustion is a welcome factor in our air-tight office space!
More than one hundred years of uninterrupted presence of the market give the Lampe Berger an unparalleled safety record, it complies with ISO 11014 requirements, it is covered by a 50 millions French francs insurance policy and its ancient models are fiercely sought after by collectors worldwide!
